Chateau Miranda

Château Miranda, also known as Château de Noisy, was a neo-Gothic castle located in Celles, in the province of Namur, Belgium. Built in the 19th century and abandoned in the 1990s, it became one of the most famous and photographed abandoned buildings in Europe, attracting urban explorers and photographers from around the world. Despite campaigns to save it, the castle was demolished in 2017 after the owners, the Liedekerke-Beaufort family, declined to sell or restore it.
Historical Background
The castle was built in 1866–1907 for the Liedekerke-Beaufort family, who had fled their original château during the French Revolution. It was designed by English architect Edward Milner in a neo-Gothic style, with a distinctive round tower and elaborate stonework. During World War II, the castle was used by the Nazi German military. After the war, it was used as a holiday camp for railway workers' children until 1991. The family then abandoned it, and it fell into disrepair. Despite being listed as a heritage site, the owners obtained permission to demolish it, and it was torn down in January 2017.

- The castle no longer exists — the site is a cleared field in the Ardennes. Visit nearby Dinant and Namur for excellent medieval architecture. The Ardennes forest is beautiful year-round. Closest town is Celles, 2 km away. Pre-demolition photographs are widely available online.
